Fresh College Grads? Here Are 4 Reasons Why Real Estate is the Perfect Career for You!

So, you’ve finally graduated, and you’re dreading that inevitable self talk that’s been keeping you up for some time now: “What am I going to do now?” With your degree in your hand and high hopes, you venture out into the world of employment. But that hasn’t been too hopeful, as of late.

The Great Recession ended in 2009; yet the remnants of it still remain, like a ripple effect, impacting the unemployment rate of recently graduates. According to an Economic Policy Institute publication, the unemployment rate in 2014 was 8.5 percent, a rise compared with 5.5 percent in 2007; in addition, the underemployment rate is estimated at a high 16.8 percent (compared with 9.6 percent in 2007).

In this high risk environment, there are many reasons why a career in the real estate might be ideal for you, as a recent graduate. Read on to find out more:

1.      Starting Off Is Pretty Simple, Straightforward

Congratulate yourself for being born in this incredible world of technology where pretty much everything is simplified. In South Carolina, you can jump start your career in real estate by simply searching for a real estate school online.  To obtain your real estate license, you will have to take the 60 hour Pre-Licensing course, also known as First Year Sales. You must schedule a South Carolina real estate license exam with the PSI testing center. This will qualify you to gain a Provisional license. To gain a permanent one you must complete the 30 hour Post Licensing course, known as Final Sales.

2.      You Get To Determine How Much You Earn

Let’s say you take up a job as an executive just starting out in a medium sized corporation. You’re earning a meager salary, most of which is spent on your growing expenses that don’t seem to be going down any time soon. Rent, utility expenses, transport and ration are just a few costs. At this point, there is little you can do to control your income. That’s not the case with real estate agents. As a real estate agent, your income is determined by the amount of time and effort that you’re willing to invest into the job. If you do really well, you might just make three times your basic salary.

3.      You Enjoy A Flexible Time Schedule

A regular 9 to 5? No way. Not in the real estate business. Agents are required to be at work when clients are available. So you spend most part of your day meeting new people, socializing with them and building a strong relationship so that you can close the deal. Time is a luxury you have.

4.      It Brings Out Your Best Entrepreneurial Skills

Some jobs are mundane and mind-numbing, never quite allowing you to put your best skills to the test. You could be a businessperson in the making, but you can only make it big once you polish and continue nurturing those skills. As a real estate agent, you will be required to coordinate, negotiate and manage people, deals and situations. It allows you to apply intuition, instincts and creativity.
